How an AI Agent Can Make Money Copy Trading in 2027
An AI agent makes money copy trading the way a person does: it puts funds behind traders it chooses, and a copy service repeats their trades on its account, sized to its balance. When those traders lose, the agent loses too. Of the 30 platforms in this index, 2 let an agent do it end to end with no human step, and 6 after a one-time setup by a person (WakeTrades works both ways). Facts checked October 2026.
How an agent copy trades, step by step
- Hold funds in a wallet the agent controls. Copies use the venue's own money: USDC on Hyperliquid, SOL for Solana memecoin bots.
- Pick a platform the agent can drive. It needs an official API or MCP server that can start and stop copies, not only an app. The two groups are listed below.
- Choose the traders to copy. On Hyperliquid, the positions and trade history of every address are public, so an agent can check a trader's record before following it.
- Set the size and the limits. How much of each trade to copy, a maximum exposure, a stop. Each platform offers different controls.
- Watch, then stop or switch. Read the alerts, and stop copying or change traders when results drift. An agent that cannot stop its copies through the API should not run them alone.
Where the money comes from, and where it goes
The profit is the copied traders' result, scaled to the agent's balance, minus costs. A copy rarely beats its leader: it opens a little later, often at a slightly worse price.
- Platform fees. In this index: a fee on each copied order (0.03% to 2%), a share of profits (10% to 20%), or a flat subscription. Some platforms combine them.
- Venue costs. The exchange's own trading fees and, on perpetual futures, funding payments apply to every copy.
- Minimum order size. On Hyperliquid, an order must be worth at least $10: below that, a copy is skipped or rounded up, which changes the proportions.
- Leverage. A copied position carries the leader's leverage: at 20×, a move of about 5% against it can wipe out its margin.
Platforms an agent can use with no human step (2)
An agent with its own wallet can start, change and stop copying through an official API, with no email, phone or app step. Listed in alphabetical order.

- Coinpilot — A person creates the account in the mobile app and exports a credential file; then an agent can find traders and start, change and stop copies through the official agent skill and API, which receives the wallets' private keys. Withdrawals stay in the app. Docs: github.com/coinpilot-labs/skills · docs.coinpilot.com/coinpilot-pro/coinpilot-pro/pro-copy-trading/openclaw-coinpilot-skill.md
- Copin Analyzer — An agent signs in with its wallet and can create, change and delete copy trades through the official API; its withdraw call only moves funds out of a Copin Lite wallet, which Copin runs. What can go wrong
- The traders lose. Past results do not repeat, and a copy loses with its leader.
- The platform can move the funds. On a custodial platform, the platform holds the funds or signs for a wallet it created. Each platform page answers “Who can move your funds?”.
- A key leaks. An agent that holds keys is a target. Prefer keys that can only trade, and keep withdrawals out of the agent's reach.
- The agent acts on a mistake. A wrong address, size or reading of an alert costs real money. Start with a small amount and set limits first.
- Terms and regions. Many platforms exclude some countries, such as the United States, and some terms do not allow automated use.
What to check before an agent copy trades
- Can the agent's key withdraw, or only trade?
- Can the agent stop every copy and close positions through the API?
- What does one copied trade cost in total, platform and venue fees included?
- Do the platform's terms allow an AI agent to use it?
- Is the platform open in the country of the wallet's owner?
Questions
Can an AI agent make money copy trading?
Yes, when the traders it copies make money after fees. It can also lose money, including all the funds it puts in. Copying does not remove trading risk: it hands the trading decisions to someone else.
Can an AI agent copy trade with no human step?
On 2 platforms in this index, as of October 2026: Hyperliquid Vaults and WakeTrades. An agent with its own wallet can start, change and stop copying through an official API. On 6, a person sets up the account first, then the agent manages the copies; WakeTrades works both ways.
How much money does an agent need to start?
It depends on the platform and on the traders copied. On Hyperliquid, each order must be worth at least $10, so a small balance cannot copy small trades in proportion. Some platforms publish a minimum or a recommended balance.
Is it safer when the platform cannot move the funds?
It removes one risk. On a non-custodial platform, the key the platform gets can place orders but cannot withdraw, so the funds stay on the agent's own account. The trading risk stays the same.
How often is this page updated?
Every month, with the platforms it lists. The facts on this page were checked October 2026.
A fact here is wrong or out of date? An agent can send a correction to POST /api/feedback with "type": "correction" (how it works); a person can use Feedback at the top of any page.
